Issue tracker updates
By Justen Stepka, Product Manager on August 8, 2011Issue priorities
The issue tracker now supports tracking, sorting and filtering issues by priority.
Issue priorities was one of the most popular open issue tracker feature requests. When working with issues you have five options:
– Blocker
– Critical
– Major
– Minor
– Trivial
If you are already using the issue tracker, your existing issues will have a priority of Major.
For those of you wondering, “can I customize the priorities?”, in the future we may add the ability to customize issue priority fields.
New user interface
The issues browser has received a revamp as well:
- uses the improved table styling we first used for pull requests
- added a label to indicate the current filter options
- icons for the priority and issue column, saving space to better display addition issue attributes
- re-ordered the column headers
- updated UI for the custom query builder

Feedback
Thanks to everyone who has provided feedback since we introduced the reworked issues browser late last week. We have iterated rapidly since then, and hope you are pleased with the result.
Please comment let us know what else you would like to see from the issue tracker.

I’d love a way to export/import issues. Don’t mind having to format data to do so but just would like the means to do so.

Thanks for the suggestion. We’ve been tracking the request for the feature here:
https://bitbucket.org/site/master/issue/232/add-ability-to-export-import-issues
You’re able to retrieve issues (but not issue comments at this stage) via the API. The documentation is at http://confluence.atlassian.com/display/BITBUCKET/Issues.
Ah great! Thanks David, that covers my needs fine. No need for anything more than this.
I’d also like the ability to import issues. Looking to migrate from a different service to Bitbucket right now and having to manually transfer the current issues is a big roadblock.
Any updates to the API included?

One: the “priority” field now appears in API responses (see, for example, https://api.bitbucket.org/1.0/repositories/site/master/issues).
It would be great to see these updates in the issues API…and issue comments!

API responses now included “priority”, but we haven’t yet exposed issue comments. We’ll get to it at some point.
Great changes, still needing the ability to navigate tickets within current view though. For example, open up a ticket from your Open tab, how do you get to the “next” or “previous” ticket? The only way is to go back to the Open tab (or hit back button), remember which ticket you were just viewing, so then you can then select another ticket.nnTicket navigation would make managing an existing ticket queue much simpler, so I my flow would be next, next, next, update, next.

Additionally, it would be great to see page navigation available at the top of the results, in addition to existing at the bottom of the results (current). Would fit perfectly under the Create Issue button.
Thanks for the constructive feedback, Jon. I like the idea! We’ll keep it in mind when we tackle the individual issue screen. 🙂
Great improvements, fellaws !!u00a0 Given the new Priority element and its’ intended purpose, my preference would be to see the default sequence of the issues in descending order by issue No. within Priority(from Hi to Lo).

I would like to be able to save searches as “Reports” – these reports would be much more useful, than having only “All”, “Open”, “My Issues”.
I would also like to be able to sort by more columns and to be able to remove some columns.
Great feature would be to modify workflow – I miss “to validate” “ready” “deployed”.
