Disk space is cheap, have some

By on February 11, 2010

As per our last post, we’ve recently switched to a much more powerful I/O setup, and not only do we have more throughput, we also gained a lot more disk space.

Disk space is cheap these days, so we figured we’d give all the plans an upgrade.

Not wanting to pull these numbers out of the air, we used this well-known formula:

This is now the offering:

Enjoy!

EDIT: Almost forgot to mention, forks won’t count towards your diskspace (unless you fork your own repository.)

This is crazy awesome. On behalf of all free account leechers, thank you!

    Thank you so much !!

This is fantastic!! Thank you so much! I was just helping a friend with his site and noticed that his quota was higher than mine. I wondered if he upgraded his plan, but then I noticed that I also have the same amount of space now.

    THANKS!

Bitbucket currently does many things better than Github. Now Bitbucket just needs to add git support.

Joking aside, I'm actually considering that.

Yesterday I found that *somehow* an entire project directory had disappeared from my hard disk. I searched my $HOME for 5 minutes, had 15 seconds of panic, and cloned the repo back from my public repo in bitbucket. I don't think I lost any data.

But the same could happen to any of my zillion unfinished projects in my hard disk. Or to all at the same time, if the disk fails. Private repos would be great for many of those.

That’s great! Thank you so much from the heart of a free user!!

Awesome, I thought something was wrong when pushing! Very welcome though, since I was using almost half of my available space. And I also always thought it was a bit too greedily small sizes before, now its just perfect imo!

Now where is my incentive to get a paid plan? I thought I was never going to fill up 150MB!

I'm really really whant to know what does this formula mean? Where can I read on it? The reason is that we also develop some paid service, and sometimes had to make decisions with numbers from air. That's why I will be glad to hear, what does this formula mean – maybe we can use it too for our situation… Thank you!

Originally, the bit bucket was the container on teletype machines or IBM key punch machines into which chad from the paper tape punch or card punch was deposited; the formal name is “chad box” or (at IBM) “chip box”.
